This year for me is marked by a number of new endeavors. Most of them are new in content and in the part of the brain that is exercised. They include:
1) Doing a "Build a Bike" Class - An 8 week class where I take a part a bike and then put it back together. In the process we learn all the parts, clean all the parts, and gain the knowledge that life is infinitely more complex than was previously thought. I am currently in my 6th week. [Pictures to come!]
2) Participating in a re-birthed "Dance Group" at my church - Reba Place. Right now this consists of 7 women who have a range of ability levels, mine is less than coordinated. And, even though I am slightly terrified of the whole thing, I am finding surprising energy and joy in the craft. We are currently working on choreographing "Wade in the Water" for our liturgical season of African American Heritage Month.
3) Gardening / Preserving Food - This is all part of my household's plan to Attempt seasonal eating. To equip this project, my family dutifully bought me a canner and juicer for Christmas along with a great book that explains it all. I am under no illusion that we will actually be able to fully achieve this feat, but I hope that we will get closer than before. The idea for this was born out of many facets of my life converging and will most likely be explored further as I blog throughout the year. My first step in this process was buying the seeds. I will hopefully receive those soon and put up a picture of my 'packets of potential'.
In addition to these new avenues, I have decided to cut back on my work hours (from 40 down to 30 hours a week) and to become a "Practicing Member" of Reba Place Fellowship - the intentional Christian Community that is here. With all these changes and rearrangements I hope to discover more answers to the question I have decided to discern this year:
How do I cultivate a lifestyle that connects me meaningfully with my Creator, myself, my community, and the earth's rhythms, in a way that is life-giving and sustainable for everyone?
This blog is one way I will process this question and share my activities with you at the same time. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI am very excited to see how this shapes up for you. I'd love to help you out with gardening/canning though I'm not able to plan anything right now. May is not too far away though.
