Wade in the Water

My church Reba Place has a dance ministry group that I have begun dancing in. In February, in our liturgical observance of Black History Month, we danced to "Wade in the Water," one of the great African American spirituals. The process of choreographing this dance and really thinking together about how the rich history of the African American experience created this holy music, made this an especially meaningful process for me.

Actually dancing is quite terrifying for me because I feel like I have no rhythm or sense of the beat, but this year I feel like God is taking me on a journey of learning physical bodily lessons. Learning to be more comfortable using my body as a form of worship has been a positive learning experience. And I also have very encouraging teachers and co-dancers. Hopefully this will lead to branching out even more. Right now my room mate is trying to convince me to go with her to a hip hop dance class.. ya that might take some more coaxing. :)

Here is a link to the YouTube Video of us dancing (I am the one to the immediate left of the middle person when it starts out. I have a blue skirt on.):

I know this post is a little late, but it took awhile to transfer the file to YouTube. Since this dance in February we have done "Jerusalem Jerusalem" written by Jim Croegaert (a former worship leader at Reba) on Palm Sunday. And right now we are working on "Here By the Water" also by Jim, to do in early June. Hopefully we will have those videos sometime soon and I will post them for you to watch as well.
